About Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget Movie:

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget is a animated comedy film directed by Sam Fell from a screenplay written by Karey Kirkpatrick, John O’Farrell, and Rachel Tunnard, based on a story conceived by Kirkpatrick and O’Farrell. A sequel to Chicken Run (2000), the film was produced by Aardman Animations and stars the voices of Thandiwe Newton, Zachary Levi, Bella Ramsey, Romesh Ranganathan, David Bradley, Daniel Mays, Jane Horrocks, Imelda Staunton, Lynn Ferguson, Josie Sedgwick-Davies, Peter Serafinowicz, Nick Mohammed, and Miranda Richardson. It tells the story of Rocky and Ginger who lead a rescue mission when their daughter has been abducted to a highly-advanced poultry farm run by their old enemy Mrs. Tweedy.

On 16 October 2019, the film officially began pre-production. Principal photography commenced in early 2021.

Julia Sawalha and Mel Gibson will not reprise their respective roles as Ginger and Rocky. Gibson was not cast due to his past controversies, while Sawalha was told her voice now sounds “too old”, a decision she criticized as ageist.

This sequel is released after the deaths of Tony Haygarth and Benjamin Whitrow (the voices of Mr. Tweedy and Fowler respectively) in 2017 the same year as Peter Sallis (original voice of Wallace in the Wallace & Gromit series).

The first animated sequel of the 2020s to be produced at 1.85:1.

This is the final Aardman film to be distributed to StudioCanal before Paramount took over in 2023.

According to visual effects supervisor Nick Park, the stop-motion animation used throughout the film was more complex than anything Aardman had done before.

This is the first “Chicken Run” film to be rated PG by the MPA, unlike the original film was rated G.

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget will have its premiere at the 67th London Film Festival on 14 October 2023 and was released by Netflix on 15 December 2023.
