- It is a standalone prequel to Jigarthanda (2014).
- The film was officially announced on August 1, 2022. Principal photography began that December and wrapped in July 2023.
- Filming took place in exotic locations across Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Many extensive sets were created to match the film’s setting. A set was erected in Thandikudi near Kodaikanal where major portions of the film were shot.
- The first look poster was released on 11 December 2022, with the film’s title revealed as Jigarthanda DoubleX. The teaser was released on 12 December 2022.
- SJ Suryah’s character in the film is heavily inspired by legendary Bengali filmmaker, Satyajit Ray.
