Storyline:
Dr. Alan Grant, a scientist who’s tricked by wealthy couple Paul and Amanda Kirby into a fly-over of Isla Sorna. The object of their sightseeing tour is one of the Costa Rican islands populated by ferocious, genetically bred dinosaurs and the “site B” setting of Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World (1997). After their plane crash-lands, it’s revealed that the Kirbys are actually seeking their teenage son, lost on the island after a paragliding accident. Trapped on Isla Sorna, Grant and his companions discover some painful truths the hard way. Among their discoveries: some of the scaly monsters possess more advanced communicative abilities than previously believed, the dreaded Tyrannosaurus Rex has a larger and more lethal competitor, and flying Pteranodons pose an even graver threat than some of their land-locked brethren. Jurassic Park III is the first in the series not to be based upon a novel by original author Michael Crichton.
About Jurassic Park III Movie:
Jurassic Park III is an American science fiction action adventure film directed by Joe Johnston and written by Peter Buchman, Alexander Payne, and Jim Taylor. It is the third installment in the Jurassic Park franchise and the final film in the original Jurassic Park trilogy, following The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997).
Sam Neill and Laura Dern reprise their roles from the first film. New cast members include William H. Macy, Téa Leoni, Alessandro Nivola, Trevor Morgan, and Michael Jeter.
It is also the first film in the franchise not to be directed by Steven Spielberg and the first not to be based on a novel by Michael Crichton; however, the film features characters and ideas created by Crichton. After the release of Spielberg’s Jurassic Park, Joe Johnston expressed interest in directing a sequel, which Spielberg agreed to.
Principal photography began on August 30, 2000, and it lasted five months. A final draft of the script was never completed during production, a circumstance that nearly caused Johnston to quit. Jurassic Park III features a combination of computer-generated and animatronic dinosaurs, with a Spinosaurus replacing the Tyrannosaurus from the previous two films as the main dinosaur antagonist.
The effects crew used two hundred fifty gallons of oatmeal to simulate Spinosaur droppings.
John Williams was contacted to write the music, but he was busy writing the music for Steven Spielberg’s A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001). Don Davis was chosen as composer at Williams’ recommendation.
Jurassic Park III premiered on July 16, 2001, at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles and was theatrically released on July 18 in the United States and other countries. The film received mixed reviews from critics.
Jurassic Park III opened with $19 million. The film was a box-office success, grossing $368.8 million worldwide against a $93 million budget, becoming so the eighth highest-grossing film of 2001; however, it is the lowest-grossing installment in the franchise to date.
In 2015, it was followed by Jurassic World, which would start the sequel trilogy of the same name. Sam Neill and Laura Dern would later reprise their roles as Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler in Jurassic World Dominion (2022).
