About Queen Movie:

Queen is a Hindi comedy-drama film directed by Vikas Bahl and produced by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane. The film stars Kangana Ranaut as Rani Mehra, with Lisa Haydon and Rajkummar Rao in supporting roles.

Principal photography of the film began in 2012 over 45 days, starting with Paris, followed by Amsterdam and Delhi. Despite shooting abroad, director Vikas Bahl did not have a huge budget to spend on the film. He took a crew of 25 people from India to shoot the film in about 145 locations in 40 days.

The lead role of Rani was earlier offered to Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, both of whom turned down the film. Vikas Bahl had written the script keeping Kangana Ranaut in mind and Anurag Basu helped Bahl in meeting and casting her.

After her audition, Lisa Haydon, who played Indo-French hotel staff member Vijaylakshmi, practiced French for a month. Actors Mish Boyko (Alexander) and Jeffery Ho (Taka) were cast after auditions in London, while Joseph Guitobh (Tim), who played Rani’s third roommate, was spotted singing on a street and was asked if he was interested in working in a Hindi film, despite not speaking English.

Queen was released on March 7, 2014, by Viacom18 Motion Pictures. The film received universal critical acclaim, praised for its direction, screenplay, and Ranaut’s titular performance, with various critics and publications citing it as the best Indian film of 2014.

Made on a budget of ₹23 crore (US$2.8 million), Queen has grossed ₹84.72 crore (US$10 million) in India, with a further ₹10.32 crore (US$1.2 million) overseas, for a worldwide total of ₹95.04 crore (US$11 million). It is one of the highest-grossing Indian films featuring a female protagonist.

Queen won several accolades at prominent Indian and international award ceremonies. At the 60th Filmfare Awards ceremony, the film received a leading 13 nominations and won a leading 6 awards, including Best Film, Best Director (Bahl), and Best Actress (Ranaut). At the 62nd National Film Awards ceremony, the film won the Best Hindi Film (Bahl) and Best Actress (Ranaut).

Kangana Ranaut was unavailable to receive the Filmfare Best Actress Award, so Director Vikas Bahl accepted it on her behalf. When Rekha, who was presenting the award, handed it to Bahl, she expressed her desire to personally deliver it to Kangana at her residence.
