Storyline:
Inspired by an epic Chinese tale, the film follows a charismatic Monkey and his magical fighting Stick on an epic quest for victory over 100 demons, an eccentric Dragon King, and the Monkey’s greatest foe of all —his own ego!

The Monkey King is an animated fantasy action comedy film directed by Anthony Stacchi from a screenplay written by Rita Hsiao and the writing team of Steve Bencich and Ron J. Friedman.
The film is inspired by the epic Ming Dynasty classic Journey to the West.
Reel FX was originally appointed to animate the film until it was given to Tangent Animation, who produced the film Next Gen and the then-upcoming series Maya and the Three for Netflix. However, by August 4, 2021, Tangent Animation had shut down, with production halting as well; Netflix was reportedly displeased with Tangent’s work, so Reel FX took over the production.
