Storyline:
Inspired by a real-life experience of Margolin’s own grandmother, THELMA puts a clever spin on movies like MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, shining the spotlight on an elderly grandmother as an unlikely action hero. Thelma is an upcoming American action comedy film starring June Squibb, Fred Hechinger, Richard Roundtree, Parker Posey, Clark Gregg, and Malcolm McDowell. Written, directed, and edited by Josh Margolin, the film is produced under the banner of Invention Studios, Zurich Avenue, and Bandwagon.
The movie is inspired by Josh Margolin’s 103-year-old grandma named Thelma, who was almost duped by scammers pretending to be her grandson into giving them thousands of dollars. June Squibb, aged 94, performed most of her own stunts for the film.
It is Richard Roundtree’s final film role before his passing in October 2023, 3 months before the film’s world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.
Thelma premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival on January 18, 2024, and is scheduled to be released theatrically in the United States on June 21, 2024, by Magnolia Pictures
