Storyline:

It follows the real-life story of Abdul Karim Telgi who was involved in the 2003 stamp paper counterfeiting scandal worth of INR 30,000 crores.

Scam 2003: The Telgi Story is a Hindi biographical financial thriller streaming television series on SonyLIV directed by Tushar Hiranandani, with Hansal Mehta serving as the co-director. Based on a true story of stamped paper counterfeitings committed by Abdul Karim Telgi in the early 2000s, the series is inspired from Sanjay Singh’s book Telgi Scam: Reporter’s ki Diary. It is the second installment in the Scam franchise followed by Scam 1992.

The series was first officially announced on 24 March 2022, by SonyLIV and Applause Entertainment.

The series officially started filming from April 2022.

On 25 May 2022, SonyLIV first announced the series officially in their YouTube channel. The teaser with a release date was announced on 4 August 2023.

It stars Gagan Dev Riar as the protagonist Abdul Karim Telgi with Mukesh Tiwari, Sana Amin Sheikh, Bharat Jadhav, and Shaad Randhawa in pivotal roles. The first 5 episodes of the series were released on 1 September 2023 via SonyLIV and the remaining 5 released on 5 November 2023.

Fruit-seller from Khanapur, Abdul Karim Telgi lands a job opportunity in Bombay where he meets his to be wife. Nine years later, he is arrested for forgery. In jail, he meets Kaushal Jhaveri and joins his gum wash operation. Finding the gum wash business un-scalable, Abdul comes up with the idea to pivot into the world of stamp papers.

Abdul successfully begins to rob official stamp papers from trains. But to sell them in bulk he needs a license. Against Kaushal's wishes, he uses political connections to acquire a license from Old Custom House, but fails. Matters get worse when Kaushal, feeling betrayed, leaves Abdul's side.

Abdul manages to acquire a license via political contacts. However, he soon turns his back on the minister that helped him by allying with the new party in power. This doesn't go down well for him and he ends up not only losing his license but also back in jail, where he meets a mechanic from Nashik, JK. Once out of jail, he is introduced to the source of stamp papers - the Nashik Security Press.

Abdul identifies that the way to get the management of Nashik Press on his side is to facilitate the promotion of their top bureaucrat from Deputy GM to GM. Once done, he gets original machines, dyes and papers from the press and starts printing stamp papers. He expands his business and makes connections in not just Maharashtra but also Karnataka. However, he soon learns that for his business to truly flourish he must wipe out his biggest competitor.

By manipulating the shutdown of the press and the supply chain of the Old Custom House, Abdul monopolizes the stamp market. It not only makes him successful but also plants the seed of extreme anxiety and rage. His steep rise having caught the attention of many, he makes hay by befriending every new and bigger power in the state. Drunk on success, he makes his first fatal flaw which will be the beginning of his end.
