Fruit-seller from Khanapur, Abdul Karim Telgi lands a job opportunity in Bombay where he meets his to be wife. Nine years later, he is arrested for forgery. In jail, he meets Kaushal Jhaveri and joins his gum wash operation. Finding the gum wash business un-scalable, Abdul comes up with the idea to pivot into the world of stamp papers.

Once out of jail, he is introduced to the source of stamp papers - the Nashik Security Press.

Once done, he gets original machines, dyes and papers from the press and starts printing stamp papers. He expands his business and makes connections in not just Maharashtra but also Karnataka. However, he soon learns that for his business to truly flourish he must wipe out his biggest competitor.

  • Scam 2003: The Telgi Story is a Hindi biographical financial thriller streaming television series based on the 2003 India Stamp Paper Counterfeiting committed by Abdul Karim Telgi, the series is inspired from Sanjay Singh’s Book Telgi Scam: Reporter’s ki Diary. it is the second installment in Scam franchise followed by Scam 1992.The series was first officially announced on March 24, 2022, by SonyLIV and Applause Entertainment.The series was officially commenced filming from April 2022 onwards.On 25 May 2022, SonyLIV first announced the series officially in their YouTube channel. The teaser with a release date was announced on 4 August 2023.Scam 2003: The Telgi Story is scheduled for release on 2 September 2023 via SonyLIV.
  • LitigationIn December 2022, Mumbai Court refused to halt the publication of the web series plead by the Sana Irfan Talikoti, Telgi daughter who filed a lawsuit in order to get a restraining order against the web series’ release. Sana has requested an injunction to prevent its distribution, arguing that the project’s makers did not have the family’s approval before moving forward. Applause Entertainment Pvt Ltd, its director Hansal Mehta, general manager Prasoon Garg, and Sony Liv were all named defendants in the lawsuit.Sana claims in her lawsuit that the series is based on a book that contained factual errors. She asserted that the web series infringed the family’s rights to secrecy, decency, and respect.
