About The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection Movie:
The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection is an upcoming American drama film directed by Mel Gibson, who wrote the script with Randall Wallace. It is a sequel to the 2004 film The Passion of the Christ, where it will focus on the three days between Jesus’ death and resurrection.
Jim Caviezel, Maia Morgenstern, and Francesco De Vito are reprising their roles as Jesus, Mary, and Peter the Apostle, respectively, from the previous film.
In January 2018, Caviezel agreed with Mel Gibson to reprise his role as Jesus in the sequel. This is the first film in which Jim Caviezel acts that is a sequel. It is also the third biblical epic in which he has starred.
This is the third film directed by Mel Gibson that is in a language other than English and also the first sequel he has directed.
Production of the film started in mid-2023. Principal photography began on April 30, 2023. The film was produced independently and shot in Italy at Cinecittà Studios in Rome, as well as on location in the city of Matera and the ghost town of Craco, both in the Basilicata region. Additionally, parts of the film will be shot in Mexico.
The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection is scheduled to be released by Icon Entertainment International in the United States on April 18, 2025.
The sequel will be released 20 years after The Passion of the Christ (2004).
