Arthur Gunn (Dibesh Pokharel) was born on October 24, 1997, in Kathmandu capital of Nepal. His family members are 7, parents Datram and Maiya, including four sisters. His family was not musical, although he was exposed to music at an early age and grew up with it in his life. As a child, he sang and played small guitars. From the age of two, he would blend songs together while playing his guitar.
His family emigrated to Wichita, Kansas around 2008 when he was eleven but he remained and finished school. After graduating high school in Kathmandu in 2014, he also immigrated to Wichita, Kansas. He did the rest of the study in the U.S.

He used to play instruments and sing songs from an early age. Before his approach to America and American Idol, he used to sing in pubs and coffee houses in Nepal. More often he sang during gatherings of friends for entertainment and as a source of fun and hobby. He took singing seriously only the year before he came to Wichita.
He released his first album Grahan in 2018 with 8 songs and later went on tour. Dibesh Pokharel has had a stage name called Arthur Gunn since the release of his first album “Grahan” in 2018. He chose Arthur Gunn’s name as “Art Hole Gunn”.
Arthur Gunn American Idol Journey:
His first experience with American Idol was watching the U.S. version online while growing up, he also learned English in Nepal. He says “I got my first guitar from my mom and then I started singing along to any song I could hear on the radio, TVs, you know. That’s when the dream started.”
He submitted an audition online for American Idol (AI) in 2019 and was invited to attend the Wichita in-person auditions, which attracted a big crowd to Century II. The whole experience has been pretty wild, Gunn said in an interview.
In the audition rounds, he sang “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” by Creedence Clearwater Revival and “Girl From the North Country” by Bob Dylan. Arthur has posted full versions of his audition songs on his official Youtube Channel.
In his First Audition, Katy Perry also asked the real name of Dibesh and pronounced it as Di-besh and said, “You are possibly Di-besh (The best)” before hearing his singing and after hearing his singing talent, she couldn’t stop saying, “He is Di-besh (The Best)”. Arthur wowed the judges during his audition on American Idol earlier this month. They obviously voted to give him a golden ticket and send him to Hollywood. But Luke Bryan had another offer for the singer.
“You wanna open for me in Detroit, Michigan, in two weeks?” Luke asked Arthur. Lionel Richie was also so impressed that he stood from his chair and went to Arthur Gunn and said, “you have no idea what this journey is gonna be for you.”
Taping was suspended after the Top Twenty were selected, and the contestants sent home, due to Covid-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. For the rest of the season, the show filmed all the on-air talent from their homes. In May 2020 Gunn became the first Nepali-born contestant in the Top Ten on the show; he performed a reggae version of John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” for the show’s theme of evoking songs of home.
