Storyline:
Champak Bansal, a widower and sweet-shop owner in Udaipur, supports his daughter Tarika’s dream of studying abroad. Tarika secures a scholarship to Truford University in London. However, Champak exposes a corrupt judge at a school event, leading to Tarika’s scholarship being destroyed. Determined to fulfill her dream, Champak and his half-brother Gopi travel to London but are deported and blacklisted. Tarika, alone in London, enjoys a carefree life while trying to fund her education.
Champak and Gopi return with fake identities and find lodging with Naina’s estranged mother. Champak confronts Tarika about her lifestyle, leading to a strained relationship. They meet a friend in trouble and pay for his bail. Eventually, they bid for a university fundraiser but struggle to arrange the funds. In a turn of events, Tarika decides to give up her scholarship and study in Udaipur instead. The movie concludes with Champak and Gopi reconciling over the family name.
About Angrezi Medium Movie:
- Angrezi Medium is a standalone sequel to the 2017 film Hindi Medium.
- In June 2017 in an interview after the success of his film Hindi Medium producer Dinesh Vijan told Mid-Day, “There is definitely scope for a sequel. We would certainly explore it.” Vijan added, “It’s too early. Also, I still have to talk to director Saket Chaudhary, who is currently working on another movie project.”
- On 24 January 2018, Vijan confirmed the sequel to Times Now. He said, “We have just finished typing the second part”, with “Just finishing touches are being put”, however, “I think you will have to wait for an official announcement for that.”
- On 30 March 2019, it was reported that Kareena Kapoor had been added to the cast of the film and filming would start from April.
- Filming began in Udaipur on 5 April 2019 and was completed by July in London.
- On 12 February 2020 Irrfan Khan shared an emotional message for his fans that he wouldn’t be able to promote the film due to neuroendocrine cancer. The next day, the official trailer for the film was launched by Maddock Films.
- Angrezi Medium was Irrfan Khan’s final film to be released before his death on 29 April 2020.
- The film was theatrically released in India on 13 March 2020. With its theatrical performance affected by the closing of cinemas due to the COVID-19 pandemic, plans for a re-release were cancelled and the film was made available digitally less than a month after its release on Disney+ Hotstar.
