Storyline:

After being shot, the Bihar CM Bheema Bharti unexpectedly names his wife Rani as his successor. An uneducated woman who was content with her simple ways of living and her regular family life has to now deal with government files she couldn’t read, corruption, and caste massacres within the state. With the caste arithmetic, traditional satraps, and the emerging voices of dissent, will an illiterate woman, Rani Bharti survive this?

About Maharani (Season 1) Web Series:

Maharani is a Hindi political drama web series created by Subhash Kapoor and directed by Karan Sharma with Huma Qureshi portraying the title character along with Sohum Shah, Amit Sial, Kani Kusruti, and Inaamulhaq.

Sohum Shah gained 12 kg to get a look of the politician Bheema, which has been modelled on the basis of Lalu Prasad Yadav.

In November 2020, some portions were shot in Kachnariya Kothi, Bhopal.

In April 2021, the shooting for a web series was also done in the Legislative Assembly (LA) Jammu complex of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state and Govt. Gandhi Memorial Science College, Jammu. Around 250 local artists from the theatre and cultural department in Jammu and Kashmir were brought in for the web series. Some drone shots of J.P. Setu and Buddha Smriti Park were also shown in the web series. The shooting of Maharani was completed in seven months.

The first season premiered on SonyLIV on 28 May 2021.

Controversy

After the release of first trailer on 9 May 2021, the Yadav community protested over a dialogue in the web series and filed FIR. The makers of web series later apologized and removed that dialogue from the web series.

Maharani S1, Episode 1 - Jaati Na Poochho Saadhu Ki

The lives of Bheema Bharti, the Chief Minister of Bihar, and his family are shown. The viewer is also introduced to the other characters in the politics of Bihar, including Navin Kumar and Gauri Pandey.

Maharani S1, Episode 2 - Dekh Tamasha Kursi Ka

CM Bheema Bharti is bedridden after surviving a fatal attack. Bheema Bharti, Navin Kumar, and Party President Gauri Shankar Pandey engage in a triangle brawl.

Maharani S1, Episode 3 - Ghoonghat Ke Pat Khol

Illiterate and reserved Rani Bharti is completely incompetent while taking the CM's oath in the cabinet meeting. Later, she directs the DGP to track down those responsible for Bheema's attempted murder.

Maharani S1, Episode 4 - Saadho Ye Murdo Ka Gaaon

Rani Bharti, as Bihar's Chief Minister, experiences her first difficulty at the office and learns from the finance secretary Parvez Alam that the state lacks the resources to even pay its staff and that all state treasuries are empty.

Maharani S1, Episode 5 - Kaun Thagwa Nagriya Lootal Ho Rama

While visiting the treasury office late at night, Parvez Alam and his deputy Anjani Srivastav discover some strange bills. Rani asks him to look into AHD withdrawals from each of Bihar's 48 treasuries.

Maharani S1, Episode 6 - Na Kaahu Se Dosti Na Kahu Se Bair

After questioning the AHD officials, Parvez Alam learns that a fraud was being committed with minister Prem Kumar's approval. Rani asks him to resign and Prem warns her that if he leaves, her government will fall.

Maharani S1, Episode 7 - Bahot Kathin Hai Dagar Panghat Ki

Prem Kumar is dismissed by Rani Bharti, who also directs the CID to look into the scam. With Prem Kumar's unexpected move, Rani's government finds itself in the minority.
