About The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2:
The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 is an upcoming American animated adventure comedy film directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic and written by Matthew Fogel. Some of the characters from the previous film will return in this film. It is a sequel to the 2023 film The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
In May 2021, Furukawa stated Nintendo’s interest in producing more animated films if the Mario Bros. film succeeded. On April 21, 2023, after the box office success, of The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) production company Nintendo confirmed plans for more films but not a direct sequel.
In June 2023, Chris Pratt mentioned sequel news would come soon, but development was delayed due to the Writers Guild strike. In November, Universal confirmed a sequel and larger franchise plans.
It will be Illumination’s 16th feature film.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 is scheduled to be released on April 3, 2026.
