Shambhujeet Baskota (Nepali: शम्भूजीत बाँस्कोटा) is a Nepali veteran music composer, director, playback singer, and songwriter. He is considered to be the most popular and prolific music director of the Nepali Film Industry. He has composed over 2,000 songs that have appeared in more than 355 films. He has composed songs for many hit films like Prem Pinda, Karodpati, Thuldai, etc. He currently serves as a member of Vibhushan committee.

He also works for an anti-drug program to help children. He is one of the singers among 365 artists of Nepal who participated to sing an environmental song titled “Melancholy,” which set a Guinness World Record. The song was conceptualized, written, composed, and directed by environmentalist Nipesh Dhaka.

Shambhujeet Baskota was born in Maharajgunj Panipokhari, Kathmandu, Nepal on March 15, 1957, in a joint family. Shambhujeet has four children (two sons and two daughters). His son Sauryajeet is also a musical director and composed the music of the film Kusume Rumal 2. Baskota’s sons and daughters are closely associated with the film industry.

Baskota completes his schooling at Shree Shanti Vidyagriha Secondary School Lainchour, Kathmandu.

Veteran music composer, director, playback singer, and songwriter Shambhujeet Baskota has composed music in more than 355 Nepali feature films, more than 2,000 Nepali modern songs, folk songs, and bhajans (religious songs). He currently serves as a member of the Vibhushan committee. He was very creative from an early age and got a musical atmosphere in the family, so he was well influenced by music.

He is recognized as director of first Nepali music video Mayalu Timi Tadha which was released in 1985 and was sung by well-known actor Bhuwan KC. At the peak of his musical career, the film producer had to sit in line in front of his house to compose songs. He says that at that time a song could be composed in 2 hours.

He says, “At that time there was no music recording studio in Nepal. We had to go to Mumbai, India to record songs. Singers and musicians also had to be taken away, so it was very difficult and expensive to record songs.”

According to the source, Shambhujeet Baskota was the first person who introduce a music video as well as a singing reality show in Nepal. In 2041 B.S. Baskota got a job in Nepal Rajkiya Pragya Pratisthan (renamed Nepal Pragya Pratisthan) and at that time he also did a program as a parody artist.
