Melina Rai Early Life and Education:

Melina Rai was born in Kurseong, Darjeeling, West Bengal, India. But her family lives in Morang. Her birth name is Anjuli. She spent her childhood in Kurseong, Darjeeling with her grandmother. She joined schooling in Darjeeling until grade 3rd. When she was 10 years old she moved to Kathmandu with her father.

She completed the rest of her schooling at Arun Jyoti Vidhya Mandir, Jorpati, intermediate high school education (12th) at Kathmandu, and a bachelor’s completed from Tribhuvan University (BA in Sociology). She used to sing since childhood and was very cheerful & playful from childhood. She says “If I weren’t a singer, I would become a dancer.”

Melina Rai Career:

Under the guidance of her father, Rai began honing her musical skills at the tender age of ten. At the age of 11, she sang “Himal ko kakh” as a chorus singer, which was also featured on Radio Nepal in 2065 B.S., and at the age of 12, her career started with the song “Kammar Mathi Patuki” in 2015.

Melina participated in the “National Modern Song Competition” organized by Radio Nepal, and she won the competition. Her notable songs include, ‘Timle Bato Fereu Arey’, ‘Shiraima Shirbandi’, ‘Chapakkai Ful Fulyo’ and latest hits ‘Kutu ma Kutu’ and ‘Machhile Khane Kholiko Leu.’

“Kutu Ma Kutu” has more than 200 million views on YouTube and made a record “Nepali first video gets 100 million views on YouTube.”

Melina Rai’s incredible talent and dedication to her craft were recognized when she received the Best Playback Singer Female award at the Radio Kantipur Awards in 2017. This accolade further cemented her status as a noteworthy artist in the industry. In September 2018, she released another hit song, ‘Kati Ma Samjhu,’ adding to her string of successes.

In April 2022, Melina Rai revealed her engagement to Sanjeev Baraili, a fellow artist from the Nepali Music Industry. The announcement shed light on her personal life, showing a promising path ahead both professionally and personally.

“It was a few months back when I announced my engagement. It was a serious decision in my life. We had thought to spend our life together. However, there is a clear difference of opinion between us on the ideological side, that is, our views could not match. So I decided to break the engagement after thinking a lot. All engagements are not turned into marriage. In the meantime, I apologize for the emotional impact on all well-wishers, and I also express my commitment to continue serving the country through the music field by working harder in the future,” she explained.
