Melina Rai was born in Kurseong, Darjeeling, West Bengal, India. But her family lives in Morang. She spent her childhood in Kurseong, Darjeeling with her grandmother. She joined schooling in Darjeeling until grade 3rd. When she was 10 years old she moved to Kathmandu with her father.
Her real birth name is Anjuli and later her sister named Melina. And she says “Melina is my lucky name and Anjuli is a favorite name.
She completed the rest of her schooling at Arun Jyoti Vidhya Mandir, Jorpati, intermediate high school education (12th) at Kathmandu, and a bachelor’s completed from Tribhuvan University (BA in Sociology). She used to sing since childhood and was very cheerful & playful from childhood. She says “If I weren’t a singer, I would become a dancer.”

Melina Rai started her career as a singer. She is very curious about listening to and singing songs since childhood, and for that, her father fulfilled her desire a lot. She got massive support from their parents for singing.
Her father, Jibes Rai, is a music composer and teacher, which is one of the biggest strengths of her music career. Her father taught her all about music. At the age of 11, she sang “Himal ko kakh” as a chorus singer, which was also featured on Radio Nepal.In 2065 B.S.
Melina participated in the “National Modern Song Competition” organized by Radio Nepal, and she won the competition.Her debut song in the Nepali music industry as a playback singer is Pal Bharmai Khushi from the movie “November Rain”.

However, there is a clear difference of opinion between us on the ideological side, that is, our views could not match. So I decided to break the engagement after thinking a lot. All engagements are not turned into marriage.
